Help hope flourish through education

Support kids to widen their rivers of opportunity.

Students at VOA High School, one of the largest alternative high schools in Minneapolis Public Schools, regularly participate in opportunities to experience nature, test their ability to adapt to new environments and have a lot of fun.

A recent week-long canoe trip down the Mississippi River included Johana (pictured here), five other students, two teachers and a dog, camping along the way. Social studies teacher Ben Savitt organized the trip and science teacher Jeff McArthur awarded school credit to students who identified plants at each camp site. Johana finished her required graduation credits on that trip.
