Help seniors feel valued and connected

Restore dignity for older adults and boost neighborhood pride.

Participants at Southwest Senior Center in Minneapolis had a busy 2016. They worked with other neighborhood groups to create five beautiful mosaic panels that now grace the sides of the community building at Bryant Square Park. While the artwork is stunning in its own right, another lasting beauty was the community pride that emerged from more than 1500 volunteer hours of collaboration.

Two of the volunteers, Betty and Joe, were there on that lovely fall day to help unveil the mosaics, and ponder the new connections they had built over the year-long effort. They now feel more connected to their neighborhood, greeting friends from different cultures and generations. There's pride in their work, excitement at learning new skills and being seen, once again, as community leaders.
