Pack Your Tools This Summer

Pack Your Tools This Summer

With summer upon us, it is important to consider what you may need to make your break as enjoyable as possible. Part of being able to enjoy time off, both independently and in the company of others, is to reflect on what tools work for you.

You may have noticed that your backpack, which was recently filled with textbooks, notebooks, and other various necessities for the classroom, is now empty! What a perfect opportunity to fill it with your own personal mental health tools! Certainly, this will look different for everyone as what helps one person, may not be so useful to another. We want to encourage you to take some time and think about what has worked for you in the past and perhaps consider some self-care items or strategies that you have been meaning to try for the first time.

In case you are looking for guidance or need help getting the creative juices flowing, here are a few ideas of things you could include:

  • Journal and pens
  • Fidget or other sensory item
  • Affirmations or words of encouragement on an index card or post-it note
  • Headphones - both for listening to your favorite music or to simply lessen the noise of being in a public space
  • Your favorite essential oil - calming, energizing, whatever you feel you need on any given day
  • Favorite snacks – this can include healthy snacks as well as food items that bring you comfort, no reason to pick one or the other!

We hope that you’re feeling inspired to pack your tools, whatever those may be, and that having them available to you will make your summer break as great as it can be!
